Most commercial insurance policies in the UK contain a "Condition Precedent." This means if you have a fire but cannot prove you had a valid, up-to-date Fire Risk Assessment—or if you failed to act on the assessment's "Significant Findings"—your insurer may legally refuse to pay out for damages.

Personal Prosecution
Breaching fire safety law is a criminal offence. In cases of systemic failure or negligence, the Duty Holder can face personal prosecution, which can result in a permanent criminal record and, in extreme cases, a custodial sentence of up to two years.
